Vanilla-friendly difficulty scaling for long-term Minecraft worlds.

Zen's Better Difficulty is a NeoForge mod that makes your world progressively harder over time — without changing vanilla mechanics.

Hostile mobs grow stronger, nights become more dangerous, and repeated boss fights stay meaningful in long-term survival worlds.

🧠 How It Works

Difficulty scales dynamically with your world age.

Early game feels close to vanilla. Late game becomes more intense, unpredictable, and challenging.

By default:

Difficulty peaks around ~200 in-game days Night increases overall danger Buffs, variants, and gear are rare early, more common later

💀 Enhanced Hostile Mobs

Mobs can gain:

More health More attack damage Increased movement speed Extended follow range Slight knockback resistance

⚡ Natural Effects & Variants

Mobs may spawn with:

Effects (Speed, Strength, Regeneration, etc.) Variants (Fast, Tank, Berserk, Elite)

🛡️ Gear Progression

Some mobs spawn with armor, and later with enchanted gear.

⚠️ Gear added by the mod does not drop (prevents farming exploits).

🌙 Night Bonus

Nighttime increases danger, making exploration and combat riskier.

🐉 Boss Scaling

Each Ender Dragon & Wither respawn increases difficulty:

+5% max health +0.25 damage (capped & configurable) 🛠️ Commands /betterdifficulty current /betterdifficulty set days <days> /betterdifficulty set scale <scale> /betterdifficulty clear

current → Displays current difficulty state set days → Forces the world age used by the mod set scale → Sets base difficulty via equivalent world days clear → Restores natural progression

⚠️ Applies to future difficulty calculations and newly spawned mobs only.
