Hello everyone!
This release is the last release made from github.com. From now on, all further development will be on codeberg.org. In the short term, the GitHub repo will be archived and made read only, until the end of the year. Afterwards, it will be deleted.
I am happy to announce that Lighty for Minecraft 26.1.2 is now available, with the following changes:
- Internal changes w.r.t. Overlay rendering. As a result, we have:
- More performant Overlay Rendering
- Restored Iris/Shader support!
- The pixelated Cross Mode is back, replacing the clean line Cross Mode (because of current technical limitations)
- The overlay is now displayed across the entire render distance. In testing, enabling/disabling the overlay may cause short (<=500ms) game stutters when playing on a Minecraft Render Distance of 32 chunks. Afterwards, there is almost no noticeable performance difference between having the Overlay enabled or not (worst case observed on my hardware was ~30fps). Using sodium, the stutters on Overlay toggle are well reduced, and overall rendering performance increases.
- Overall Lighty code complexity has been reduced. Hopefully less stuff will break from now on, so that I can focus more on new features and improvements!
- Switched to a new MultiLoader Template in response to big build-system changes.
I want to thank everyone who took the time and contributed code, issues, and discussions to Lighty on GitHub. Your contributions are highly appreciated, and maybe we'll meet again over on codeberg.
Additionally, the SchmarrnDevs Discord server has been closed. Further communication will take place over codeberg issues.
Of course, releases will still be made available on Modrinth and Curseforge.
Special thanks to Sophie, without whom I'd have never discovered this alternate way of rendering the overlay.
Thanks for everything, see you on codeberg, and have fun!
Hello everyone!
The next release of Lighty for Minecraft 26.1.2 will be the final release on GitHub. The repo will move to codeberg afterwards! More information in the release notes for Lighty for Minecraft 26.1.2.
This release for Lighty v3.1.4 (a pi release!) for Minecraft 1.21.11 brings the following changes:
- Arabic translations by @Adam989-mc, thank you for your contribution!
- Fix for #120, Lighty is now showing a technically correct overlay in the overworld!
- Fix for #121, carpet mode no longer shows through solid blocks when using Fabulous! graphics.
- New feature as described in #122: There now is a text notification when toggling the overlay on/off. Very useful if you've disabled the Show Safe option.
This release is only PARTLY WORKING with IRIS. Boring cross mode is functional, but if you rely on Carpet/Number mode and are using shaders, those two modes won't show. Please disable shaders or use boring cross mode while I try to figure out how to solve this issue. This issue gets tracked in https://github.com/SchmarrnDevs/Lighty/issues/118.
Regarding Lighty for Minecraft 26.1.2: Please have some patience still. Not only was the release badly timed with Easter, but then Create Aeronautics launched, which may or may not have eaten some of my free time :)
Thanks for your understanding, have fun!

Hi!
This release should fix an issue that occurs on at least AMD GPUs on Windows (Wrong CarpetMode texture, NumberMode not rendering).
Thanks for reporting the issue, and many thanks to my friends for helping me test and figure this out.
Have fun!
Hi!
This is a quickfix fixing a nullpointer exception that can occur at least on Apple M4 computers.
Thanks to Loewyn on Discord for reporting the issue!
Hello everybody, Andi here!
This release finally brings Lighty to Minecraft 1.21.10!
I had to wait for a replacement API in fabric, but now that that's here, I was able to port it!
This release also contains:
- A smaller .jar for fabric: Back when Lighty was released for each snapshot, the jar contained parts of the fabric-api. Now this is no longer the case, resulting in a much smaller jar.
- The overlay distance was kinda wonky, and this got fixed. It should be a normal square now!
- Pale Moss Carpets, repeaters and comparators, and weighted pressure plates wrongly had an overlay shown. This is now corrected.
Thank you for your patience, and have fun exploring all the new copper blocks in Minecraft!
Hello everybody, Andi here!
This Lighty release contains two things:
- A new look to the cross mode—not so boring anymore! Done by me, even though I'm still taking my break. Blame Sammy for nerd sniping me.
- Exciting performance improvements, contributed by @Niterux! Many many thanks to Niterux for taking the time to look into how to improve Lighty's performance <3
As always, if you encounter any new bugs/problems with Lighty, feel free to open a GitHub Issue or tell us on Discord!
Have fun, and thanks again to Niterux for his contributions!
Hello everybody, this is Sammy writing.
Andi is still taking their (well deserved) break.
This release brings Lighty to Better Than Adventure!
Since BTA has its own release cycle, do not expect frequent updates or identical behavior to the upstream versions.
However, this release is feature complete. But the internal code is more identical to the older source code and therefore not as efficient in rendering.
I had to adjust the code heavily for this release, so if you encounter any bugs, please report them on GitHub or in our Discord server. Thanks!
Thank you all for your patience and have fun!
Hello everybody!
With much thanks to @Idle1010, the Iris incompatibility should be fixed with this release.
Special thanks also to the malilib developers, because their code inspired the solution: Creating custom RenderPipelines.
For those who didn't notice: I am still taking a break from Lighty development. More information is available in this issue.
Thanks again, and have fun with shaders!
Hello everybody!
This release fixes some issues of the previous release. In particular:
- Make Lighty compatible with sodium again (#97). But: performance suffers by this fix.
- Fix the wrong translation keys in some translation files (#98).
- This release should also just work with 1.21.7 (#99).
As always, if you encounter any new bugs/problems with Lighty, feel free to open a GitHub Issue or tell me on Discord!
Thank you all for your patience, and have fun!
