Disable Player Reporting

This mod disables Minecraft's new Player Reporting feature, once and for all!

Why this mod?

Many of the existing mods that claim to "disable" player reporting contain extra, unnecessary modifications to the game. At best, those extra changes can prevent you from chatting on Minecraft servers, while at worst they can playing on secure servers at all.

This mod does one simple thing: it disables Player Reporting on your client. You can still play and chat on any multiplayer servers like normal, and unlike some "no chat reports" mods in the past, this one doesn't allow other players to falsely report you!

I can play on secure servers too!? What's the catch?

Minecraft 1.19.1 introduced a chat message signing system, where your copy of the game generates a signature when you send a chat message. If someone spots offensive behaviour in-game, they can file a report, and Mojang can use the signature to prove that those chat messages were not faked. If someone uses a mod to create a fake report about you, any fake messages in their report won't have the right signatures to prove you or anyone else actually sent any of the messages in the report, so Mojang will not consider these valid and will not ban you for that alone.

The only way to be banned with this system is either by having your account stolen (in which case you can contact Mojang support for help), or by just being an awful person and saying offensive things in a public chat, where someone you don't know might actually report you. You can just... not do that. It's a block game for children. It's your call.

Despite the practically zero risk of being falsely reported, many "no chat reports" mods appeared after this release, claiming to "protect" you from being falsely reported to Mojang. However, these mods do not actually prevent anything or protect you. They simply remove the secure signatures from chat messages, and may also remove secure parts of your profile being sent to servers when you log in. This will simply lead to you being unable to chat or even play on servers that enforce secure profiles. Some of these mods have in the past also made it easier for bad actors to falsely report you, though Mojang will still see that these reports are invalid and so this is a non-issue.

This mod just prevents you from reporting other players. It doesn't interfere with signatures at all, and so will not stop you playing on secure servers.

To repeat, player reporting exists to allow Mojang to deal with deeply offensive behaviour in multiplayer. Chat signatures exist to allow Mojang to verify these reports. Reporting does not allow Mojang to spy on players or snoop on private conversations. If you're desperate to say offensive things in public in a block game for children, that's your call to make.

Usage

Client

Simply install and Fabric Loader 0.15.11 or above on Minecraft 1.21+, then drop this mod in your mods/ directory. Next time you start your game and join a server, check the pause menu and you'll see reporting other players is no longer possible!

Server

Player Reporting is a client-side feature. The Minecraft server does not have the ability to report players or chat messages to Mojang. As a result, this mod is unsupported on the server.
